A Night on the Streets with Arizona’s Family to the Homeless

When Arizona’s Family to the Homeless (AZFH) goes out for street outreach, they carry essentials that meet immediate needs and remind people they’re not forgotten.

Tammy Paynter, Executive Director and Co-founder, shared a message from a recent evening on the streets:

“Street outreach tonight, everyone was grateful for the underwear. Look at those faces! Thank you for helping us bring hope and a shining light in the darkest of places.”

That night, Tammy met Debra, a woman staying in a shelter and preparing for job interviews.

With a few essentials, words of encouragement, and a moment of prayer, Tammy offered the kind of care that makes a hard journey feel a little lighter.

Arizona’s Family to the Homeless serves people facing homelessness and food insecurity across Arizona and the Southeast region.

Guided by faith, their mission is to serve and empower individuals and families with compassion, community connection, and practical support.

Meeting an Overlooked Need

Underwear is one of the most requested items during outreach but also one of the least donated.

Through The Undie Chest partnership, AZFH can now provide this essential item with dignity and care.

“At AZFH, we believe in restoring dignity through choice,” their team shared. “When we’re able to offer bras and underwear and allow guests to select what they need, it sends a clear message: we see you, we care, and your comfort matters.”

Choice is central to how AZFH builds trust. “When we show up with compassion and give people the freedom to choose, we begin to rebuild trust—one interaction at a time,” Tammy explained. “Underwear may seem like a small item, but when offered with dignity, it becomes a symbol of care. It tells our guests: You matter. Your comfort matters. Your voice matters.”

The Power of Community Generosity

Every new partnership reflects what’s possible when people choose to give. The donations you send to The Undie Chest make their way into the hands of organizations like Arizona’s Family to the Homeless—groups who meet people where they are, offering comfort, confidence, and connection.

We’re grateful to support Tammy and her team as they continue their outreach work, reminding people across Arizona that care and dignity go hand in hand.
