Title 1 Students
Creating Equal Educational Opportunities for All
Schools have a crucial role in shaping the growth of our children during a critical period of their lives. They receive fundamental education, learn essential life skills, and discover how to manage new relationships outside their home environment.
However, some students face disadvantages due to socioeconomic factors that hinder their ability to have a successful school life. This is where Title 1 schools come in.
Title 1 is a federal program established under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) 1965. It aims to support schools and districts that serve many low-income students. Such schools receive additional funding, resources, and assistance to bridge the educational achievement gap and ensure quality education for all students.
The importance of Title 1 schools lies in their commitment to leveling the playing field and breaking the cycle of poverty.
We can break the cycle of poverty by providing quality education for all students, increasing their chances for successful careers.
However, a comprehensive approach is necessary to understand students’ non-academic needs. Those experiencing poverty may also lack access to clean clothes, underwear, and hygiene products.
If a student is experiencing hygiene poverty, it can significantly impact their self-esteem, resulting in absenteeism and perpetuating the cycle of poverty.
By recognizing the unique challenges faced by students from low-income backgrounds, the Undie Chest partners with Title 1 schools to provide underwear.

New T-Shirts/Undershirts
Donating t-shirts and tanks can boost the confidence and self-esteem of students facing poverty. Replacing hand-me-downs with vibrant colors and comfortable fabrics can reduce bullying and discrimination. All students deserve dignity.
Back To School Undie Drive
August 1-31
As part of our commitment to supporting students in Title 1 Schools, The Undie Chest hosts an annual Back to School Undie Drive. This initiative focuses on providing clean, comfortable underwear to students, helping them start the school year with dignity and confidence.
Our Goal for This Year
We aim to collect 5,000 pairs of undies and raise $10,000 to support students in need. These contributions will ensure that students can focus on learning and not worry about their basic needs.
We're accepting donations all year round, but if you'd like to get involved with our undie drive throughout August, you can learn more below.
“The Tempe Elementary School District has been fortunate to partner with the Undie Chest to provide our middle school students with brand-new undergarments.
This very strategic partnership has a great benefit to our students who are in desperate need for this particular resource. A school district will often receive donations of small hygiene items, but the support of underwear is truly unique. A need for new underwear is very common for families in need, however it is not something easily observed. This issue is often hidden, making it hard for students to be comfortable.
We are grateful for The Undie Chest to support our middle school students; middle school is often missed as needing basic supplies. Our partnership with the Undie Chest is supported through our Health Office in each of the middle schools.
Undergarments are a blessing for comfort, and dignity and promote confidence in students when spending time with friends, and participating in physical activities. Our outcomes with the partnership with the Tempe Elementary School District and the Undie Chest protect and support students.
Having basic needs provided for students increases the positive mental and physical health, and provides students with the opportunity of increased learning in comfort.”
